Neon Tetras are one of the most popular tropical aquarium fish in the world. These stunning, relatively hardy fish need to be kept in small shoals (groups) in order to thrive. Their stunning colours and active nature make Neons a great choice for community aquariums with other species of small, peaceful fish.
Neons thrive in planted aquariums that mimic their natural habitat. They are a South American species that lives in the amazon river. Neons use their bright colours to communicate with each other in the dark waters that they inhabit.
Neon tetras will benefit from a varied diet but take care to ensure that the flake or pellet that you use is of a suitable size for these tiny fish. Daphnia is one of the best foods to offer and contains natural colour enhancers to show off the red and blue colours that make these fish famous.
Neon Tetras are sometimes confused with cardinal tetras which look similar. In Neons, the red stripe begins in from of the tail and finishes just before the belly whereas in Cardinals, the red stripe extends the full length of the body all the way to the mouth. Cardinal tetras also tend to grow a little larger than Neons.
